Lot of people have their reason why they do not want to put their real face avatar on their tagdeaf profile. Because some people stealing someone real avatar and post them self on another web site without you know. I have seen one of our members who use another deaf member with a real avatar and post it on Tagdeaf site. I noticed there are two same faces on tagdeaf site and I notified someone about stolen picture. TD moderator deleted the fake account. That was a couple of month ago. It was from out of country member. You just never know that someone use your info or picture on another web site without your know. That is the problem. Lot of people are using non face avatar like I have kitten on my. Other people using plane, flower avatar, etc. to protect them self from stealing their real avatar and use it somewhere else.
I know some people who added you for no reason. If they are new member, it usually turn out a scammer. If they are not new member, There probably add you for no reason even you don't see them much in the shout box, topics or live chat. (Probably they want to show their friend how proud they have lot of people on their list? Ha Ha) Few brave people who have their real avatar on their profile.
Use your best judge, either you want to accept them, reject them or place them on hold on your pending list for a while.
Beware of new member with blonde, beautiful or hot girl on their avatar, who want to add you right away, it could be a scammer (fake profile, avatar usually stolen picture from someone else to make you believe she is real, could be a man). If you accept them, they usually send you an email with their email address, ask you if you have yahoo or messager (this is really bad idea, they could accessing your hard drive with those dangerous messenger), need borrow your money, million dollars to transfer to your bank account or or tell you that someone died and they have lot of money and want you to take care of their money or Deaf Lotto. They DO NOT exist. Most Nigerians are hoping someone will fall for this and they could get a serious problems at later on.
For me, If someone (especially new member) want to add me, I usually put new members on my waiting list (on pending request friend) for a while until I know them better or seen their message lot in shout box or topics.
That is why you may notice lot of people who don't use their real avatar or no picture on their profile. If you trust them for a long time, you can ask them to exchange picture by email or over the instant message to see if they accept your request. It is good idea to ask a few pictures instead of one picture. One picture could be fake. Use your best judgment.
If you get suspect email from anyone or new member, you can forward (copy and paste with their user ID) their TD message to Spelchek, CandyBrownEyes or PEMA (me). We are all moderator / staff so we can remove the scammers out of this site. We want to keep our site clean.
