Since being on here. I have found out that some of the full deaf people do not talk in the "proper" grammer like books, and magazines. Are deaf people taught this "proper" grammer in schools? How exactlly are deaf people taught to read and write? Is it like hearing students?

Another thing, How can a teacher know the reading level of the deaf student? Does the teacher watch the book and also the student at the same time? That sounds hard. When the child points to the words "is" or "the" does he have to sign that word or just skips it when he's reading? I've heard some people being forced to sign those types of words but mainly in just social conversation they just skip them.

Thank you

American Sign Language has its own grammar system, separate from that of English. What this means is ASL grammar has its own rules for phonology, morphology, syntax, and pragmatics. ASL doesn't use "state of being" verbs like in English grammar.

The teacher for the Deaf do teach grammar or proper usage of grammar in most school. But remember ASL is thier native language and they will prefer to use ASL structure more often. I am sure most Deaf do know that but they still have the habit to use ASL in conversation with thier Deaf friends. Some do love to read or some are not too crazy about reading. Now most schools for the deaf are pushing hard in literacy in thier classrooms. I have met normal hearing people didn't even have a good usage of English grammar too. So it is not just only the Deaf that has problems with English.

To answer that question. they do have assesment tests to find out the reading level of the deaf student before they could help them to read.

Good question, It is good for deaf or hoh people to learn proper grammer, I am hoh, I went to hearing schools, I am happy with it.

Second part, there are so many levels of deaf and hoh people, there are also many levels of hearing people level.

About forced to sign languages, it is not good idea for teachers to pushing too hard to make them uncomfortable, teacher should be flexable with students.
