Doctors are OBLIGED to do no harm. So, to deafen a human being (an infant) is not ethically/morally possible, no matter how it's justified.

Plus, there are other neurological consequences/risks to severing the hearing nerve than just deafness, such as Proprioception (sense of body position or balance, dancers use this). The hearing nerve does more than just transmit sound. Besides, this would require extremely major brain surgery (two of them). It would be cruel to subject your child to this. Lousy parents.

I think this is a fake story inorder to make hearing parents think twice about imposing a CI on their deaf baby, in the hopes to become "hearing". This amounts to the same thing, but in the reverse.

You presented a good argument RS on doctor's obligation and had me searching whether this was true.  Found out England is having a hot debate because of a bill being passed over embryo selection.  Healthy ones are choosen over unhealthy ones for implant.  Brings a question up... Do Deaf parents have a right to select an unhealthy embryo that has a deaf gene rather than a healthy one? 

JMHO... I think its funny because some Deaf people don't see an embryo with a deaf gene as unhealthy.  I question why they are searching for unhealthy ones?   One can't do that from the womb in the natural process.  Why are they going through this for an unnatural process.  A child is a child and in the case of IV, a gift since one can't conceive naturally.

Yeah, I recieved an email from my friend about this. Unbelievable...I have a hearing son. I just accepted for who he is. That's what God gave me. We cannot change what we like or prefer. For an example, some people speak in spanish, italian, or other different language. We can't expect them to follow english only. Same idea with deaf culture, we can't put cochlear implants in those innocent deaf kids or it will hurt our deaf community. Just leave deaf people alone. What is wrong with hearing aides? It's more safe than cochlear implants, right? Deaf people use their hands to speak. Hearing people use their mouths to speak. That's natural. So, let it be!   ~ItalianPrincess~

Right I agree with you ...That God create ppl is naturnal and gift.God is purpose for Deaf within Sign language in World and God have his reasonable himself too.

WHAT?! "WTF" GOING ON HERE? THIS IS GETTING SICKER THEN I THINKS. "IF" THE BABY GROWN~UP AND FOUND OUT THEY WERE BORN HEARING, I AM SURE THEY WILL BECOME HELL AND PISSED~OFF OVER DEAF MOM AND DAD THIS IS SO SILLY IDEAS OF ALL.
