I just made a pretty awesome discovery. Have you ever gone to websites that stream TV episodes and movies? Most of the major TV networks such as ABC, NBC and FOX allow you to watch their TV shows on line. Another popular site for this is Hulu.com.
They even have closed captioned TV episodes and movies. But the problem is not many of them are closed captioned. If you go to Hulu.com right now and find the TV show "House" episodes. Most of them will have closed captioning. But a few days ago the latest Episode of that show didn't have CC. This kind of pissed me off because I've been waiting to see what happens on that episode.
So I did some research and started playing around with ideas for ways to watch that episode and other Internet videos. I finally found a solution so I thougt I'd share it with you all.
Here's an overie of what you'll need then I'll show you how to use it.
Subtitle file of the show/movie you want to watch
You can download the subtitles to just about any movie or TV show you want from the internet. The subtitle files are a text file that contain all the words that will show up in the subtitles and tell the video player when to show them. In other words. So the text that you read as subtitles show up in time with the video.
You can search the internt for subtitles. They end with the extention .srt or .sub. My favorite sites to find subtitles for movies is subscene.com. For TV shows my favorite is tvsubtitles.net. Go to either of these sites and search for the subtitles to and movie or TV show you like. You can also find them in different langauges.
NOTE THIS BLOG WAS RECENTLY EDITED BECAUSE I FOUND A BETTER WAY THEN WHAT I USED BEFORE. SO IF YOU'VE READ THIS BLOG BEFORE ALL THE INFORAMTION BELOW IS DIFFERENT THEN IT WAS BEFORE AND THIS IS AN IMPROED METHOD!
I found a new subtitle player that has a very cool function. The susbtitles will play on the player but it'll also show the subtitle text "THROUGH" a streaming video. So the subtitles will be visinle on the internet video rather then below it. It's kind of hard to explain so watch this video and you'll see what I mean by "Though the video".
Here's a video that shows how to deal with commercials using this subtitle player.
See how the subtitles appear through the video? To do this you'll need a couple of things.
First you need the subtitle player that I used in this video. You can use the trial version for free (Which is all I'm using) but if you want to purchase it's only $9.99. But like I said, I haven't paid anything for it. Click here to get it.
Now you're not ready just yet. You need one more thing. Before I tell you what it is let me first explain why you need it. The subtitle player will not play without a video. In other words if you just open the subtitles file in the player you won't be able to play it unless there is also a video playing. So what I've done is I created a 2 hour long video that contains nothing but a thin back image as a background.
So here's what you have to do. Download the below compressed folder that contains the blank backed movie file. Open it in the subtitles player. Then open the subtitels in the subtitles player. Now when you play the blank backed video the subtitles will appear and you'll be able to use it just like you see in the above video.
what about hulu.com do have to downlaod anything to get subtitles there?sorry with all the questions ha
If you can watch flash videos such as youtube videos then you shouldn't have any problem watching hulu.com videos. An easy way to find out is to just go to Hulu.com and see if and of the videos play.
